What is White Iron Castings?
White Iron features high compressive strength and excellent wear resistance, making it ideal for applications involving abrasion or fluid flow. White iron displays a distinct white fractured surface due to the presence of an iron carbide precipitate called cementite, giving it a very hard but brittle nature.
Applications for White Iron Castings
Because of White Irons superior hardness and abrasion resistance, white iron castings are widely used in wear-resistant and fluid flow applications. However, due to White Iron Castings brittleness, it is not typically used for structural components.
