Spanning the East River and linking Lower Manhattan with Brooklyn, the Manhattan Bridge has been a staple of New York City’s skyline since its completion in 1901. As one of the last suspension bridges constructed during that era, it combines practical engineering with elegant design—especially seen in the four monumental globes that crown its towers.

After more than a century of weather and wear, the New York City Department of Transportation began restoration efforts on the bridge’s iconic decorative globes. These globes—both symbolic and structural—required expert craftsmanship to replicate their original form while standing up to modern durability standards.

That’s where Trumbull Foundry came in.

Our team was honored to contribute to this once-in-a-generation restoration. Working closely with project engineers and preservationists, we reproduced the massive globe structures with precision and respect for the historical artistry they represent. Using time-tested foundry methods and modern metallurgical techniques, we helped ensure these historic elements were faithfully brought back to life.

At Trumbull, we believe that craftsmanship connects the past to the present. Our involvement in the Manhattan Bridge project is more than just a job—it’s part of a legacy. Projects like this demonstrate how American manufacturing can preserve national landmarks, revitalize infrastructure, and inspire future generations—all things we are proud to play a part in.

The restored globes now stand tall once again, illuminating the skyline and symbolizing the enduring strength of both the Manhattan Bridge and the people who maintain it.
